Final cleaning - you are responsible

You can order final cleaning through SSN or clean yourself. You are responsible for ensuring the property is approved as clean and checked, when you move out. Please leave your room as you would like to find it.

It is your responsibility that your unit is clean

  • Two weeks before you move out, you will receive information with reminders regarding the important tasks you need to do in the event of cleaning and clearing.

  • Also, a reminder will be sent out two days before your moving day, where you need to confirm that you have completed all the tasks you are responsible for.

Step by step when doing the final cleaning:

Remember to write when you want the cleaning check to take place - both time and date.

What is a cleaning check?

A cleaning check is carried out by a cleaner at SSN, who checks that you have cleaned what you are supposed to in a satisfactory manner. You must book the cleaning check no later than 14 days before you need the check.

When does the cleaning check take place?

The cleaning check will take place on a weekday between 9am - 2pm and on the date of your choice, but no later than the last day of the contract. If the last day is a Saturday or Sunday, a move-out laundry check must be arranged no later than the Friday before.

Follow the checklist for your bedsit or apartment, depending on which type you have lived in. Wash thoroughly.

Checklist for final cleaning of single unit (with private bathroom and kitchen, private bathroom and shared kitchen or shared kitchen and bathroom):

  • Cabinets, shelves, furniture, window frames and all lights / lamps.

  • Doors, frames and light switches.

  • Pull out furniture to wash moldings (then put them back).

  • Windows, inside and outside (where accessible without the use of a ladder / lift).

  • Ceiling, walls (including picture shelf) and floor.

  • Mattress cover needs to be washed.

Bathroom

  • Ceiling, walls and floors are to be thoroughly cleaned and wiped dry.

  • Cabinets and shelves, both on the outside and inside.

  • Mirror and light fixture.

  • Washbasin, both on the outside and inside.

  • The toilet, as well as the pipes.

  • Clean drains.

  • Door, frames and light switches.

  • Shower curtain needs to be washed.

NB. This also applies where two tenants share bathroom.

Kitchen

  • The entire kitchen interior (inside and outside). Including between cupboard and bench.

  • Sink.

  • Kitchen cabinets, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer.

  • Freezer must be defrosted.

  • Stove, including plates / grate and fan with filter.

  • Pull out white goods and clean behind and on the sides (applies if the goods are freestanding).

Shared kitchen?

  • If you share kitchen with seven or more others, clean your cabinet/drawer and fridge thoroughly, inside and outside.

  • Where two people share a kitchen (shared kitchen and bathroom / doublet), the entire kitchen must be cleaned when one resident moves out. Follow the list for kitchens above.

We kindly remind you to wipe all surfaces with a dry cloth after cleaning with water and soap.
NB! When we arrive for the scheduled cleaning inspection, we expect your unit to be clean and completely empty of personal belongings.

Kitchen, living room, bedroom and hallway 

  • The entire kitchen interior (inside and outside). Including between cupboard and bench. 

  • Sink. 

  • Kitchen cabinets, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer. 

  • Freezer must be defrosted.

  • Stove, including plates / grate and fan with filter. 

  • Pull out white goods and wash behind and on the sides (applies if the goods are freestanding) 

  • Cabinets, shelves, furniture, window frames and all lighting / lamps. 

  • Doors, frames and light switches. 

  • Pull out furniture and wash moldings. 

  • Wash windows (inside and outside). 

  • Wash ceiling, walls (including picture shelf) and floors. 

  • Mattress cover needs to be washed.

Bathroom 

  • Ceiling, walls and floors. 

  • Cabinets and shelves, both on the outside and inside. 

  • Mirror and light fixture. 

  • Washbasin, both on the outside and inside. 

  • The toilet, as well as the pipes. 

  • Clean the shower thoroughly.

  • Clean drains. 

  • Door, frames and light switches. 

  • Shower curtain needs to be washed.

NB! When we arrive for the scheduled cleaning inspection, we expect your unit to be clean and completely empty of personal belongings.

  • When you have finished cleaning, you must turn up at the agreed time in your dorm/apartment to go through your cleaning with the cleaner from SSN.

  • You will go through your property together and agree on what is good and what may need to be rewashed.

What if the cleaning is not approved?

If something is not approved, you'll have the opportunity to rectify the errors as long as your contract is still valid. You will then agree on a new cleaning check.

In total, you can request a cleaning check twice. Unfortunately, once your contract has expired, it is not possible for you to rewash to get the cleaning approved and you will be charged a cleaning fee.

Important:

🧼You must turn up at the agreed time to get the opportunity to clean again. There are often many apartments to be checked, and it is unfortunately not possible for SSN to spend time constantly making new appointments with the same person.

🧽If you are unable to attend due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, please let us know as soon as possible, and no later than 24 hour before, so that we can set up a new appointment.

If you don't turn up for the cleaning check (and haven't notified us within the deadline of 24 hours) this will trigger a fee. It will not be possible to receive a summary of what may not have been cleaned well enough. Questions can be sent to [email protected].

If there is anything missing or not working properly in the dorm/apartment you have rented from us, you must remember to notify us BEFORE you move out. This is so that we have the best possible conditions for preparing the accommodation for the next student. Read more about damages/defects here.

Clean unit = no fees!

  • Be aware that you must attend the agreed cleaning check (please notify at least 24 hours before the appointment to avoid a fee).

  • If the final cleaning is not approved, SSN will carry out the necessary cleaning and/or remove furniture and belongings. You, as the tenant moving out, will be charged a fee for this.
