Dear all of you who contribute to a vibrant campus environment and a meaningful student life.

Build a thriving student community

Your time as a student can be one of the best periods of your life. Most of us look back on it with a smile, filled with memories of academic challenges and new friendships. But student life isn’t just about coursework, exams, and stress. It’s also a time for personal growth, exploration, and making a difference in the community.

At the heart of this is you, the student volunteers! You bring students together, regardless of background, interests, or field of study. Here, creative ideas are explored, networks are built, and leadership skills are developed—skills that last long beyond your studies. You create social spaces where lifelong friendships are made.

We see your dedication and how you develop skills that are vital for personal growth and future success—qualities essential both professionally and in everyday life: organization, communication, and empathy. You take responsibility, collaborate, and organize activities, and we are thrilled to see how you support and help each other across different student organizations. Social sustainability is about building strong, supportive communities where people can grow together, promoting inclusion, equality, and mutual support. You are helping to create a community that fosters a positive student environment for everyone.

SSN supports you!

At SSN, we are proud to support and work closely with you, the volunteers. Through your initiatives—whether it’s climbing, knitting, role-playing, or stargazing—we see the incredible passion and diversity across our campuses. Volunteerism is a cornerstone of a healthy and fulfilling student life, and many students discover their purpose through it.

But remember, volunteering provides more than just skills. It offers a sense of purpose and belonging, which is especially important during stressful or lonely times. It gives you a break from academic pressure, helping you relax and nurture new friendships. This is vital in addressing the mental health challenges many students face. We also see how your efforts align with the "Five Ways to Wellbeing" for a happier life: being present, being active, continuing to learn, connecting with others, and giving back.

And let’s not forget—such engagement looks fantastic on your CV! It shows you’re responsible, outgoing, and eager to contribute to society. Research shows that volunteers often enjoy better mental health and find greater meaning in life. These experiences can make you stand out in the job market and offer valuable insights into different industries.

We encourage everyone to follow your example: Get involved and be part of something amazing! Take the opportunity to contribute to a better student environment while also growing personally. No matter the activity or organization you choose, you’ll experience a community built on collaboration and camaraderie.

And the best part? You’ll help make student life more open, inclusive, and inspiring for yourself and your peers.

To all of you making an incredible effort: Thank you! Without you, student life wouldn’t be the same. We are so proud of what you do and look forward to following your journey as student volunteers in the years to come.

Thank you for making student life better for all of us!

Be a volunteer!
